The Brazilian Confederation of Shopkeepers (CNDL - Confederação Nacional dos Dirigentes Lojistas) released a survey carried out with the Brazilian Credit Protection Service (SPC Brasil - Serviço de Proteção ao Crédito) that points out that in the last twelve months, the number of defaulters paying their debts increased.

The result, recorded in August this year, is the most significant since September 2015, when the index grew 5.8%.  In the monthly comparison between August and July, the credit recovery advance was of 4.2%.

According to data from the Credit Recovery Indicator, the Center-West region of the country presented the most significant growth (12.39%), followed by the Southeast (8.31%) and the Northeast (7.09% ). On the other hand, the North and South regions presented negative indices, that is, the volume of defaulters that regularized the financial situation fell to -10.38% and -3.10%, respectively.

Most people who have had their debts cleared (44%) are in the 39- to 49-years old bracket. Then, come the consumers who are over 65 (13%) and young people between 18 and 29 (12%). Considering the gender, the women were the ones who square up their debts the most, totaling 52%.

According to the SPC, the effects of the crisis and of unemployment keep the increase of credit recovery neutralized. The default rate in the country reaches 41% of the adult population.

The Credit Recovery Indicator is of national scope and shows the monthly evolution of the volume of debtors that are no longer part of the defaulter register.  The basis for the calculation of the indicator is the registration of CPFs (Individual Taxpayer Registration Number) that go out from the SPC database list.
