The Brazilian Association of Franchising (ABF) presented the data referring to the Quarterly Survey of Franchising Performance related to the second quarter of 2018 for the sector. As highlight, the growth of 8.4% (from R $ 37.765 billion to R $ 40.734 billion) compared to the same period last year. According to the Association, the positive result was thanks to the maintenance of the gradual pace of economic growth and the continuity of initiatives to increase efficiency and innovation by the franchisers.

ABF's President Altino Cristofoletti Júnior and ABF market intelligence manager Vanessa Bretas evaluated that the final balance was significant even with the truck drivers' strike that took place in May of this year. They pointed out that this result was driven by seasonal dates (Mother's Day and Valentine's Day), the resumption of expansion, innovation, and new channels of consumer communication that helped maintain positive performance.

According to the survey, the performance of the franchise sector in the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2017, resulted in a 6.8% increase. Revenues rose from R$ 74.455 billion to R $ 79.496 billion. Comparing the second quarter with the first quarter of 2018, growth was 5.1%. Regarding the accumulated value of the last 12 months, the increase in revenue was 7.4%. This index increased revenues from R $ 156.812 billion to R $ 168.360 billion.

Cristofoletti considered that "this expressive result in the quarter, still in the face of a scenario of uncertainties in the economy and politics, is due to the maintenance of sales, but especially to a resumption of the pace of expansion and to the commitment of the networks to diversify formats and products".
